United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk emphasized in his 2024 Human Rights Day speech that human rights are not merely an abstract concept but hold an important place in everyone’s daily life. Under the theme “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” he stated that human rights play a solution-oriented, protective, and transformative role in times of crisis. Human rights are a powerful tool that can prepare individuals and societies for a better future.
Turk noted that human rights play a key role in ensuring peace and stability, and he invited all people to uphold these values in order to build a fairer and more equal world.
